Best Of British Design

I have been hearing fantastic reviews about the 'British Design' exhibition currently showing at the V&A in london, the exhibition showcases the best of british design from after the second world war to the current day, I will most definately be making a visit before it ends.

Faceted Beauty

I recently came across this exquisite collection of faceted products by designer Phil Cuttance, the colour palette and form are absolutely stunning.
The 'Faceture' series consists of handmade vessels, light-shades and side-table. Each object is produced individually by casting a water-based resin into a simple handmade mould. The mould is then manually manipulated to create each objects form before each casting, making every piece completely unique, this designer is definitely one to watch.

'Post-Itable'

For all the designers out there who constantly doodle on hundreds of pieces of paper or post it notes.

Milan-based design firm SoupStudio created a workstation for designers called 'Post-Itable that gives a constant access to reminders and sketching space. The retro style desk is stacked with giant size Post-its, pages can easily be ripped off and you can even change the colour each time a stack is finished. The table was created in a design competition a few years ago, what an ingenious concept!

Tom Ford Mayfair House Sale

Iconic fashion designer, Tom ford has recently sold his beautiful Mayfair home for an undisclosed figure. The Georgian townhouse was originally purchased in 2004 for £5.75 million. Only four years later it was back on the market for a staggering £45 million but was taken off the market as he did not find a buyer. 

The interior as to be expected is seamlessly executed in his trademark style which is luxurious, masculine, understated glamour. It is clearly evident that Tom ford initially trained in interior architecture, his sense of proportion is amazing. The floating staircase, stainless steel panelling in the dining room and the Gucci monogrammed black and white hallway runner are just some incredible features in this period property. Apparently he is looking for a new home in the South Kensington area. I wonder what it sold for this time...

Incredible Original Chinoiserie Mural Uncovered

I have been meaning to add this post for some time now as I am fascinated with the history of styles.                            
A few months ago I had the privilege to see some incredible original 19th century hand-painted murals that have recently been discovered in a property development close to where I live. Unfortunately most of the original interior detail within the property had been destroyed, this is one of the only remaining features that was hidden underneath over a hundred years of decoration. How could something so beautiful and intricate like this be disguised. It is believed that this was the decoration of a ladies parlour.
There are only a few sections intact, the developer is considering preserving them underneath glass frames.

The Chinoiserie style was at its height of popularity in the mid eighteenth century, but continued to be used well into the nineteenth century. The style was used particularly for bedrooms and dressing rooms. These interiors often featured genuine asian objects such as Chinese porcelain and wallpaper.

Chinoiserie designs are still much favoured by interior designers today, here are a few examples of the style at its best.
